History of CMLR
Camp Mountain Lake Retreats began as an all boys camp in the summer of 1946. Founded by George Reynolds, of Sewanee, the camp was purchased by Coach Horace Moore in 1970. Girls were admitted as campers for the first time during the second sessions of 1971 and in 1972 the camp officially became co-ed on a full time basis and remained that way until it closed for good after the summer of 1987. Charles worked as a CIT at Camp Mountain Lake when he was 15 years old, and he remembered it's idyllic and beautiful location, which prompted him and Cindy to purchase the 55 acre property in the fall of 2016 with the vision of creating an adult-style camping experience.
